VMware Certified Professional (VCP, VCP5-DV, VCP510)

VMware Certified Professional (VCP, VCP5-DV, VCP510) Exam Preparation.
This page is intended to provide advice to IT Professionals, who plan to take the VCP-5 Exam and become VMware Certified Professionals on vSphere 5.vmware

VMware recently modified the name of the certification from VCP5 to VCP5-DV.   So far, the official name of the corresponding exam appears to be unchanged and is still named VCP510.   Don’t be surprised if some web pages and news articles still refer to the certification as VCP5 or VCP-5.  Don’t be surprised to find references to the exam as VCP5-DV or VCP5.  But to be accurate today, we should state that a key step to becoming a VMware Certified Professional – Datacenter Virtualization on vSphere 5 (VCP5-DV) is to pass the VCP510 exam.

Another key step is to attend a qualifying, authorized VMware course.  Generally speaking, the vSphere 5 FastTrack class is the best course to prepare for this exam, but most students take the vSphere Install Configure Manage course.   In some cases the What’s New in vSphere 5 or the vSphere Optimize and Scale course could also suffice.

I recommend that you begin by reviewing VMware’s web page on VMware Certification that provides all the details.  On this page, you can match your specific, current certification and training level and determine the specific, required course options that are required for you becoming a VCP5-DV.  Then examine the Exam Blueprint, Program Overview, Mock Exam, and Forum that are located on the same web page.

Here is a list of recommendations that I typically provide to my students.

  • Do not be concerned if the study materials you utilize are version 5.0 or 5.1, the test is 5.x.  So, no questions should appear in the exam whose answer would vary in vSphere 5.1 versus vSphere 5.0.
  • For students of the vSphere FastTrack course, you can rely almost solely on the course materials for your studies.  Pay close attention to the tiniest details in the text.  Practice performing the labs to the point where you feel you could comfortably repeat similar steps in a production environment without having to look inside the lab book for guidance.
  • For students of the vSphere Install Configure Manage course, use your books as your main study material, paying close attention to details, but plan on gathering more materials to study, as probably 30% or better of the exam questions are not covered in this course.  Some of the items that are not covered in detail in the vSphere ICM class, but will be covered on the exam, are dvSwitches, Host Profiles, and Storage DRS.  Use the Blueprint from VMware’s Certification web page as a guide on what additional items to study.  Be sure to gain hands-on experience with any such items.
  • Here is a very handy link, which matches items from the VCP510 Blueprint with appropriate resources: http://virtual-infrastructure.it/certifications-on-virtualization/vcp/vcp5/
  • Here is another handy link with study materials: http://blog.mwpreston.net/vcp-5/
  • Get familiar enough with all VMware products, such that you can identify the purpose of each product.  You do not need to know details about each product, but you should at least know what the products are.  Here is a starting point:  http://www.vmware.com/products/
  • Memorize some of the maximums, but the exam does not seem to focus to hard on this.  Memorizing the maximums found in the vSphere 5 Install Configure Manage course book should be adequate, but if you prefer to a more comprehensive list, use this link:  http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r50/vsphere-50-configuration-maximums.pdf
  • Likewise, memorize ports for the various vSphere connections that are covered in the vSphere Install Configure Manage course.  Here is a handy diagram: http://www.vreference.com/public/ConnectionsPorts-v5.pdf
  • Be sure to fully understand CHAP as described in the course book and on page 40 of this document:  http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_iscsi_san_cfg.pdf
  • Handy reference card:   http://www.vreference.com/vsphere-5-card/
  • 3rdparty – unofficial, sample exam questions:
  • 3rd party blog and references for VCP exam:  http://vmwaretraining.blogspot.com/2011/10/vcp5-information-and-preparation.html
  • Expect the exam to be 100% multiple choice, where the number of correct answers for each question is specifically identified in the question. For example, the question will not state “more than one answer may apply”, instead it would specifically state “choose three answers”.
  • Don’t get stuck on questions that are worded poorly or that technically have too few or too many correct answers.  Simply decide which answer(s) VMware is most likely wanting and keep moving.
  • Gain hand-on experience, which is a requirement for becoming a VCP.  Students who do not have access to a working environment should create their own personal lab environment.  Many articles appear throughout the Internet for creating a home lab for VCP study, such this comprehensive article on Boerlowies Blog.  Although the exam is not hands-on, I recommend that you feel comfortable that you could successfully implement and utilize all the features of a vSphere Enterprise Plus in a greenfield environment without having to research any steps.
  • For students, who took a course besides vSphere FastTrack or vSphere ICM, and for students, who prefer a single source for all their studying, use the Official VCP5 Certification Guide from the VMWare Press, written by Bill Ferguson.   Students using this resource should not have to utilize any other resource to prepare for the exam.

I hope you find this useful.  I am interested in your feedback.

RedHat Virtualization

Sertifikasi Linux juga berjenjang seperti Sertifikasi yang lain Misal Cisco,Microsoft ataupun Mikrotik.jika di Linux sertifikasi tertinggi adalah RHCA dan untuk menempunya kita harus menempuh ujian RHCSA (dulu RHCT) yaitu untuk sistem Administrator yang merupakan skill practice untuk seorang sysadmin,kemudian setelah lulus RHCA kita bisa mengambil RHCE yang merupakan Sertifikasi tingkat Profesional kemudian ke tingkat Expert yaitu RHCA. untuk silabus atau skill yang harus dikuasai seperti ini;

Prerequisites

To become certified, an RHCA will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in a number of areas beyond RHCE, such as those related to systems deployment, systems management, clustering, and storage management.

However, the RHCA certification offers the flexibility to demonstrate additional skills in either directory services and authentication or in managing virtualized systems. Consequently, an RHCA will have many, but not necessarily all, of the following skills:

  • Installing and configuring a Red Hat Network Satellite server
  • Configuring users, groups, administrators, and activation keys on a Satellite
  • Creating base and child channels on a Satellite
  • Using Cobbler and Satellite to install, configure, and manage systems
  • Managing data using logical volumes and snapshots
  • Configuring high-availability clusters using physical or virtual systems
  • Configuring a GFS file system to meet performance, size, and quota objectives
  • Configuring iSCSI targets and initiators
  • Configuring a Kerberos realm
  • Configuring Red Hat Directory Server to provide a centralized directory with access control
  • Configuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux® clients to authenticate using various mechanisms, including Kerberos, LDAP, and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Configuring and managing hypervisors and virtual hosts using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization
  • Analyzing system performance and behavior using tools such as vmstat, iostat, mpstat, and sar
  • Configuring systems to provide information using SNMP
  • Configuring runtime kernel parameters
  • Analyzing system and application behavior using ps, strace, top, Oprofile, and Valgrind
  • Configuring disk subsystems and scheduling algorithms and network buffers for optimal performance for specific requirements.RHCSA > RHCE > RHCA (Red Hat Enterprise Security: Network Services + Red Hat Enterprise Deployment and Systems + Red Hat Enterprise Directory Services and + Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Exam + Red Hat Enterprise Clustering and Storage + Red Hat Enterprise System Monitoring and Performance Tuning Expertise Exam )Sertikasi selain yang saya sebutkan diatas RHCVA videonya ada disini.
    silabusnya kayak gini.versi indonya gini;

BackupAcademy: How To Become a Data Protection Expert Without Paying a Single Penny – with Rick Vanover

Rick Vanover (vExpert, MCITP, VCP) is a product strategy specialist for Veeam Software based in Columbus, Ohio. Rick is a popular blogger, podcaster and active member of the virtualization community. Rick’s IT experience includes system administration and IT management; with virtualization being the central theme of his career recently. Follow Rick on Twitter @RickVanover or @Veeam.

Today we are here to talk about amazing program called the Backup Academy. Where you learn everything about backup in a virtual environment and pass the Backup Academy Certified Professional certification and… everything for FREE
In this interview you will find:

  • What you can learn with this program?
  • Do you need to be a virtualization expert before you take this training?
  • What other free resources and tools you Veeam has for you?

IT Certification Master: Hello Rick. Tell us something about you and your role in the Backup Academy.

Rick Vanover: My role is to help guide the content that makes up Backup Academy. I work closely with our project management and web technology teams. This is critical as we can deliver a professional product by using Veeam’s resources to manage the content, process and infrastructure related to delivering the content. While Veeam Software has sponsored Backup Academy, it’s important to note that this is a community resource. Specifically, this is a free resource for IT pros new to virtualization and data protection technologies.

ICM: You have only one certification – Backup Academy Certified Professional. Tell us, why we should achieve this certification?

RV: There is only one certification by design. While we cover a broad range of topics, it’s a vehicle to address the basics of both virtualization and data protection. More specific credentials for virtualization and other technologies would naturally be the next step for the typical IT pro that goes through the Backup Academy sessions.

ICM: You also have free training videos for this certification. Why I can learn from them?

RV: The videos are the key to our content. We’ve hand selected a number of experts in the field to talk about technologies in general related to virtualization and data protection. To emphasize our commitment to the virtualization community, effectively no content editing is performed on these videos.

Our goal is to take experts from the field and let them share their insight, in their own words. In fact, the edits are mostly removing mentions of Veeam.

ICM: I see few legends here: David Davis (vExperts, CCIE), Greg Shields (MVP, vExpert), Eric Siebert (vExpert) and everything is for free. Where is the catch?

RV: There is no catch. We put the material out there as a commitment to the virtualization and larger IT community. This is one of many free resources that Veeam provides. Others include the Veeam Community Podcast, our free product program for Veeam ONE, our Home Lab program for free VM backups and V-Index.

To make the virtualization and larger IT communities “work” – it needs to be a two-way street. Veeam is happy to lead and provide to the community with Backup Academy and other programs.

ICM: Do I need to know anything about virtualization before I take your trainings and pass the exam or maybe I need VCP from VMware?

RV: Prior knowledge is good, but not required. The VCP and Microsoft certifications would be a natural next step after Backup Academy.

ICM: Do employers need or will need people with your certification?

RV: We see Backup Academy as a tool that IT Pros can use to easily build their expertise. This can be to advance in their current job and demonstrate initiative to develop their career.

Virtualization and data protection are very hot areas in IT, and the same goes for the job market.

ICM: Do you provide any other benefits for people with the Backup Academy Certified Professional certification?

RV: Our other community initiatives, mentioned earlier, don’t explicitly require Backup Academy certification.

ICM: Do you think we should see more certifications, similar to yours: free trainings with IT Rockstars and a free certification? Maybe this is a good idea for CERTIFICATIONS 2.0?

RV: We’d like to see additional commitment to the virtualization and IT community. At the highest level, Veeam wants everyone to embrace virtualization. Backup Academy is a resource we’ve put out to help everyone get to that point. We are committed to putting new content on the site, and soliciting external presenters to bring in new perspectives. This is important as the technologies related to Microsoft and VMware continue to change.

ICM: Tell us about your plans for the future. Will we see new training materials or certifications?

RV: At this point, we don’t plan on offering an additional certification; but we will keep adding tracks as the technical landscape changes. One example is our newest track on deduplication which is related to data protection trends today to reduce storage requirements. But the IT pro new to these technologies may not know much about deduplication. The goal is that everyone walks away with increased knowledge after going through Backup Academy.

This commitment to keeping the site fresh will continue to make it a valuable resource for IT Pros worldwide.

ICM: Thank you so much. Tell us, where is THE BEST place to start a story with your certification?

RV: The best place to start is BackupAcademy.com. From there, you can start with the content and learn about Microsoft and VMware technologies. Veeam is also an active member of the virtualization community in places such as Twitter. You can follow Veeam on Twitter @Veeam and Backup Academy on Twitter @BckpAcademy. Thank you for this interview with IT Certification Master!
